What is a Doula?
Doula is a Greek word. It means “mother the mother.” A Postpartum Doula makes sure the new mother’s needs are met, so she can best meet the needs of her new baby.
My role as your Doula is to support you and your family during this time of transition. My goal is to help you find your own, personal parenting style. One that works for you, your family and your baby. I do that by supporting you as you move through the process of getting to know your baby and yourself as a new parent.
What do you do?
Each family has different needs and circumstances. I tailor my services to meet the individual needs of each family I serve.
Specific tasks performed can include:
- Breast/bottle feeding guidance
For example, during a home visit I can:
- Help with any breastfeeding problems
- Coach you through newborn care such as soothing, bathing, diapering, baby-wearing, etc.
- Work on a list of household chores you’d like done
- Care for the baby while you nap or shower
- Listen to and advise on any concerns you may have
- Prepare a meal for you and/or the family
- Spend time with an older sibling
Whatever best supports you is what I’m there to do.
How much does it cost?
My day-time hourly rate is $35, with a 2-hour minimum daily charge. I bill weekly for my services and accept check or cash.
"I found your help invaluable. Even though I had people out here to help, you were the most help. When you left, my house was clean and kids were calm and I was able to get some rest." -- JP
